Welcome to the Nippon Connection Film Festival website!
Another year has gone by, and the next edition of the Nippon Connection Festival is drawing closer. This year's festival will take place from April the 18th to April the 22nd 2007 in Frankfurt am Main. The seventh instalment of the Nippon Connection Film Festival is proud to present you with the full range of a film industry brimming with energy and a variety that has yet to be discovered.
While we are swarming out to festivals to put together the Nippon Connection program for you, our internet presence for 2007 is being revamped. This year's program schedule will be available through our website from the middle of March at the latest. Under the patronage of the Japanese Consulate General and the Johann Wolfgang Goethe-University, our festival program will once again include over 150 films and a large cultural by-program. Most of the filmic works we have in store for you will be shown in Germany for the first time, and many of them will be personally introduced to you by the filmmakers themselves.
This years Nippon Connection is once again expanding in size and scope. For the first time we present the KINEMA KLUB CONFERENCE ON FILM AND MOVING IMAGES FROM JAPAN. This project takes place in cooperation with the Institute for Theatre-, Film and Media Science of the University of Frankfurt and Abé Mark Nornes of the University of Michigan. This 8th edition of one of the most important academic events for film from Japan will be the first to take place in Europe. 33 scholars from nine countries will present their research.
The program section NIPPON CINEMA offers you an overview of current Japanese cinema productions, ranging from subtle drama to fantasy spectacle. The NIPPON CINEMA AWARD for the best Japanese film, determined by an audience vote, is endowed with 2.000 Euros sponsored by the Bankhaus Metzler.

NIPPON DIGITAL presents animation, short- and documentary films, as well as, digitally produced films ranging from independent to big budget.
This year's NIPPON RETRO will focus on Japanese experimental- and avant-garde films from the 1950s to the present. It is presented to you in cooperation with the cinema at the German Film Museum.
Of course, Nippon Connection offers you more than excellent films! NIPPON CULTURE transforms the festival centre into Little-Tokyo for 5 days: Parties, concerts, a noodle soup bar with karaoke, a tea- and sake lounge, Japanese puppet animation, breakdance-robot-performances, theatre shows and lectures by international experts on Japanese films, and much more will allow you to experience various facets of Japan before and after the films.
Also, interest in our program NIPPON CONNECTION FILM FESTIVAL ON TOUR is unbroken. Some of the films we will show you in Frankfurt will also be shown in Berlin, Leipzig, Barcelona and the Netherlands, as well as in North and South America.
Nippon Connection is the largest festival for Japanese Cinema worldwide, and it is one of the few film festivals in Germany organized completely on a voluntary basis by a team of about 20 members. We would like to thank our large team of voluntary helpers who help ensure that the festival can take place year after year. A special thank you goes to all cooperation partners, sponsors and supporters, who have made it possible for us to offer you such a large program.
